GSDC is built by practitioners with experience across subnational government, international affairs, public policy, research, communications, partnerships, and institutional strategy.
Our team combines public-service experience with cross-sector expertise and a shared commitment to strengthening the practice of subnational diplomacy. We connect global knowledge with the realities of governing and work with leaders, scholars, and institutions across regions to strengthen public institutions and improve community outcomes.
Founder & President
Aissata M.B. Camara
Aissata M.B. Camara is the Founder and President of the Global Subnational Diplomacy Council (GSDC), a fiscally sponsored project of Forward Global advancing the role of cities, states, and regions in global affairs.
A recognized leader in subnational diplomacy, she previously served as Commissioner of the New York City Mayor's Office for International Affairs, culminating nearly 11 years of public service advancing New York City's engagement with the United Nations, foreign governments, and cities worldwide. Earlier in her career, she worked with the Rockefeller Foundation, Grameen America, and the Research Foundation of the City University of New York, and interned with the United Nations Department of Management. She also co-founded There Is No Limit Foundation.
A Fulbright Specialist, Camara's honors include Spain's Order of Isabella the Catholic, the MIPAD Hall of Fame & Under 40 recognition, the Jo Ivey Boufford Award for Public Service Innovation, and the Baruch Alumni Changemakers Award. Originally from Guinea, she holds a B.A. from Baruch College and an M.P.A. from NYU Wagner.
